On Friday afternoon Georgie had oiled the clippers, washed Millie and was preparing her for the weekends activities. With the nights dropping into single digits while the days remain warm Millie was in a limbo of starting to get a winter coat but getting warm in the day time so Georgie decided to clip her! Frankie had a one day event planned on Saturday and had been preparing for days, dutifully practicing her dressage test in the arena with Georgie!
But alas that evening a kind friend of Georgie let her know that unfortunately the one day event had been cancelled due to bad ground! Poor Frankie took it so well saying "Oh well, it's ok, there will be another time" (what over 5 and a half year olds would have reacted that well after all that preparation?!)
Luckily Georgie had managed to get Frankie into her Pony Club's Cross country schooling rally at Horseheath Race and Cross Country Course!
Mum and I got to the yard and I cleaned up Millie's white socks while Mum washed her tail, we loaded up the car and before long was at the rally and ready to go!
To keep Frankie's hands free of mane I did a running plait to keep it out the way and Millie looks so cute. Aren't they a little partnership!
Frankie had been put up a group and was really keen to get going and show us how we'll she was doing off the lead rein. Millie has been rather 'sassy' (cheeky and naughty) lately and has been just testing Frankie to see how she will get on. I think having a shetland will make Frankie a wonderful rider as Millie is no easy pony. She's never been an 'off the lead rein' pony before and is adjusting to have an equally sassy 5.5 yr old 'piloting the ship' so it's a battle of wills sometimes! Before long Millie had settled down (maybe she was just feeling fresh from her clip) and the group were ready to head into the woods to do some jumps! Bearing in mind that Frankie is just getting to grips with jumping and being off the lead rein, but she's always had great balance and a good seat so we're so proud of her progress!
This was Millie and Frankie's first experience with a step/drop and they were amazing.
They went on to jump telegraph poles, log stacks and other fun jumps and even whizzed through the water and out over a log but I missed recording that bit!
Overall the one day event disappointment was a distant memory and Frankie had just as much fun with her friends and her pony! The one day event will hopefully be rescheduled and that dressage test will be re-remembered.
